Many research and scientific studies have shown that exposure to formaldehyde can enhance the risk of developing many chronic diseases including cancer and leukemia. However, in a blowback to already in-place environmental regulations, the EPA under the Trump administration moves to block warnings on cancer-causing chemical formaldehyde.
Former head of EPA, Scott Pruitt and the Trump administration have actively been blocking the draft health assessment of EPA’s scientists about toxicity of formaldehyde and other cancer-causing chemicals.
Recently, Scott Pruitt had to resign due to his remarkable run of scandals, including Pruitt’s payment of $200,000 a year job for his wife, Marlyn and deregulating almost every environmental regulation and policy that protects the health of environment and the health of population, including children.
In his last day in office, Scott Pruitt gave “super polluting” trucks a gift by cementing a massive loophole in favor of toxic producing truck companies that produce almost 60 times more pollution than other trucks that use the current generation of pollution controls. The loophole generally allows the manufacturers of some of the most super-polluting trucks on the road to build even more super-polluting trucks, without any environmental regulation or consideration.
Pruitt also held a meeting last year in Rome with Cardinal George Pell, a felon who has been charged with sexual abuse and is a known climate-change denier. Apparently, Scott Pruitt was also the main force behind convincing Trump to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord.
The mounting pressure from the public forced Scott Pruitt to resign, although the White House and Trump personally have been praising Pruitt for his remarkable work at EPA. The fact is that 99% of the scientific community believe that climate change is happening and is man-made. Because of the climate change, the hurricanes, monsoon flooding, extreme-weather and super-storms are getting stronger and more destructive.
Keep in mind that the Trump administration’s effort to destroy the environmental regulations by denying climate change could further endanger the environment and the planet we all call home. The Trump administration has deregulated many policies of the Obama Era that was aimed to limit the environmental pollution and CO2 emissions and continues to limit research funding for science and environment.
>> The trump administration has cut down Nasa Climate Monitoring Program: The 10 million dollars per year program used to monitor the global carbon emissions.
>> The trump administration has threatened to dismantle protection of the Endangered Species Act: ESA – a regulation that grants protection to nearly 300 threatened species.
>> EPA under the Trump administration has taken a major step to fight lowering CO2 emissions for vehicles: This policy was put in place during the Obama Era in order to reduce CO2 emissions for vehicles and is a major victory for automobile manufacturers.
>> Under the Trump administration FEMA removes “Climate Change” from its strategic plan: The plan was put in place during the Obama Era as well as Bush to protect our nation from equally challenging events, including technological incidents, natural disasters, or extreme weather events spawned by global warming.
>> The Trump administration moves to cut down funding for environmental research program and research on children’s health. EPA is also ignoring chemicals that affect our health and is polluting our soil and drinking water.
>> The Trump administration plans to have a major 72% cut on research for clean energy and Renewables. The Trump has personally praised “Beautiful Clean Coal” and has imposed tariffs on imported solar panels. We all know there is “NO such a thing as Clean Coal” and maybe we should send Ivanka and Melania to work in a coal mine for a week, in order to convince Trump that there no such a thing as “coal” being beautiful or clean.
>> Trump is bailing out coal and nuclear plants because they simply can’t compete economically with renewable sources of energy from solar, wind or natural gas. Trump wants the American tax payers to pay for expensive electricity from dangerous and dirty sources like coal, while cheaper, cleaner and safer options like Renewables are available.
>> The Trump administration plans to sharply reduce national museums
>> The Trump administration cancels rules that help to protect endangered whales and sea turtle from fishing nets
>> The Trump administration pulls out of the Paris Climate Agreement
>> The Trump administration allows and expands off-shore drilling: During the Obama era the oil and gas companies were banned from drilling offshore parts of the Arctic, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans. Not anymore.
>> Under the Trump administration, toxic pesticides like chlorpyrif (linked to brain damage in children and farmers, even at low levels) avoid a ban. Congratulations everyone! We all got to die sometime. So eat it up!!
>> Trump signed an executive order revoking Federal flood-risk standards due to sea level rise because of climate change
>> EPA under the Trump administration cuts down regulation on toxic air pollution from industrial sources: The Clinton-Era policy was put in place in order to protect poor and working class families from hazardous pollution generated by toxic producing corporations. Now these companies could legally dump hazardous chemicals into our air, dirking water and food supply. Under the trump admin, these toxic-producing corporations can literally kill people and get away with it.
>> Under the Trump administration, many US government sites including EPA’s site have removed or reduced content about climate change. Other major websites about climate change and environmental science are also secretly censored.
>> Under the Trump administration, accidental killing of birds (a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act) is now legal: This will affect mostly energy companies like BP. Keep in mind that the oil spill back in 2014 killed somewhere from 600K birds to 800K birds.
>> The Trump administration removes climate change from the list of national security threat
Keep in mind that one of the most biodiverse places on Earth known as the Great Barrier Reef (home to 9,000 species, 240 bird species, and thousands of marine creatures) is now under attack as a result of climate change. As temperature rises, the water absorbs more CO2 and becomes more acidic. As a result of acidic water, the coral reefs die in a process known as bleaching. An extreme heat wave in 2017, ended up killing half of the coral reef and according to a recent study by the journal Nature Geosciences, the Great Barrier Reef could be completely destroyed in the next few decades, leaving a lifeless structure behind that could take thousands of years to recover, if even possible. About 25% of fish species live in the reefs and their destruction could be catastrophic for fish population and the livelihood of those who depend on them as a source of food or living.
Climate change is the one problem that has no winners and it is our responsibility as consumers and citizens of the earth to use our voting and purchasing power to elect governmental officials who have a deep understanding of the climate science. Despite the Trump administration’s effort to block research on global warming, we need to speed up the adoption of renewable sources of energy like solar, wind and fusion and cut down our addiction to fossil fuels that are making our planet sick.
