coffee

If you are not a morning person, drinking coffee can help you to catch up with all your morning tasks. Drinking coffee can have many health benefits and if you are addicted to coffee you’d be glad to know that drinking coffee is actually healthier than what you think:

1. Coffee is a primary source of antioxidants and essential nutrients

According to a study published in the American Chemical Society, Americans get more antioxidants from coffee than any other source.  A diet high in antioxidants mostly found in raw fruits and vegetables can fight inflammation which is the primary reason behind various diseases including cancer, cardio disease, and arthritis. There are also essential nutrients in coffee such as pantothenic acid, magnesium, niacin, manganese, potassium and riboflavin.

2. Coffee can boost your metabolism and enhance your workout performance

The caffeine in coffee can help to calm down the nervous system and improve your metabolism by burning fat cells. The body releases fatty acids by burning fat and uses them as fuel.  As the number of fatty acids increase in the bloodstream, the body uses them as fuel for the muscles during an intense workout.  Although too much caffeine can dehydrate the body, a recent study suggests that about 500 mg of caffeine a day doesn’t dehydrate the athletes and helps them to combat stress and fatigue by enhancing their physical performance.

3. Coffee can protect you against liver diseases

Drinking coffee can protect you against liver diseases such as cirrhosis researchers say. Studies also suggest that drinking coffee can lower liver enzymes. High liver enzymes can trigger inflammation and cause damage to liver.

4. Coffee can prevent cancer

The rate of cancer is increasing drastically. According to World Cancer Report, global cancer rates are going to increase 50 percent by the year 2020. A diet high in antioxidants is known to fight inflammation and accumulation of free radicals and toxins. The powerful antioxidant in coffee known as ‘Polyphenols’ and ‘phytochemicals’ can help to reduce inflammation and beat the formation of free radicals. Studies show that coffee can help to prevent liver, skin and colorectal cancer.

5. Coffee can lower the risk of type II diabetes

More than 300 million people worldwide are affected by type II diabetes. Inability of the body to make insulin when body is insulin resistant is the main reason behind diabetes. According to a study by the American Chemical Society, drinking coffee can lower the risk of type II diabetes by 50%. Other studies show that drinking coffee can significantly lower the risk of type II diabetes.

6. Drinking coffee can improve your brain cells and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia

Drinking coffee can improve brain cells and increase focus and concentration. Studies show that for those who live a healthy life style, drinking coffee can prevent development of Alzheimer’s and dementia. As a matter of the fact, studies show that people who drink coffee on a regular basis are 65% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s.

7. Coffee can lower the risk of Parkinson’s disease

People who drink coffee have lower risk of devolving Parkinson’s disease researchers say. According to ScienceDaily, drinking coffee could lessen the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and help people with movement.

8. Coffee aroma can make you feel relax and happy and lower depression

Studies suggest that people who drink coffee on regular basis have lower risk of becoming depressed. A study by Harvard School of Public Health suggests that drinking coffee could lower the risk of suicide by 50%. Coffee can increase production of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline that trigger feeling of happiness. Studies also show that the coffee aroma stimulates the brain protein linked to stress and helps people to feel relaxed.

9. Coffee can lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases

According to researchers, the powerful antioxidant in coffee known as ‘chlorogenic acid’ can fight and prevent cardiovascular diseases such as strokes.

10. Coffee promotes longevity and helps you live longer

A study by Harvard suggests that people who drink coffee on a regular basis are more likely to avoid disease and are less likely to die because of premature death. Another study published in Annals of Internal Medicine  suggests that drinking coffee can lower the risk of death from cancer and heart disease in women. Coffee drinkers are less likely to get sick and therefore they could live a longer life.
