Global warming is drastically increasing the risk of heat waves, super tornadoes, wild fires, prolonged droughts, hurricanes, and super storms according to a new research. The global temperatures have increased since 1979 and extreme heat waves combined with severe draught with no precipitation have become more frequent as a result of global warming caused by humans. Intense heat waves are affecting the world and millions of people in US and across Europe are being affected by it.
In addition to excruciating heat, deadly viruses, bacteria, diseases and fungal infections can increase with global warming and the world is losing its biodiversity as one million species are at the risk of extinction within the next few years, because of man-made climate change.
The Great Barrie Reef (one of the most biodiverse places on earth) in Australia has been affected by two massive recent bleaching events in the last two years and the damage continues to expand by the ocean’s heat waves as corals die in a process called “bleaching”. According to research, nearly half of the corals in the Great Barrie Reef have died by coral bleaching since 2016.
While many independent studies suggest that it’s too late to slow down or stop the changes in the climate, others suggest that at this point we have to learn to live with the devastating consequences of the climate change.
In the meantime, the Trump administration has intensified its attack on climate science by dismantling the already-in-place environmental regulations and laws and by continuing to deny the climate change when the administration’ own scientists describe these irreversible changes in the climate as “Climate Catastrophe and Genocide”.
While the UN climate report warns that we have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe, the Trump administration continues to bailout the fossil fuel industry with taxpayers’ money and undermines any effort to invest or research in renewable sources of energy like wind and solar.
Under the Trump administration, the “Environmental Protection Agency” should be called the “Extra Pollution Agency” since toxins and chemicals locked up for 30 years are being dumped back to the soil that we plant food & toxic pesticides like chlorpyrif (linked to brain damage in children and farmers, even at low levels) avoid a ban. In a recent move, Trump's swampy EPA made a so-called "emergency" approval to spray sulfoxaflor — an insecticide EPA's own scientists consider "Very highly TOXIC" to bees — on more than 16 million acres of crops known to attract bees.
Although the former head of EPA, Scott Pruitt had to resign because of ethic scandals and wide-spread corruption, a former oil and mining industry lobbyist named “Andrew Wheeler” now runs EPA. Andrew Wheeler is even worse than Scott Pruitt in terms of deregulation of environmental laws, ignoring calls to ban deadly carcinogens like asbestos (that has been linked to 400,000 deaths in America annually from lung cancer) and increasing safety limit of PFAS chemicals (linked to thyroid disease and cancer) in drinking water.
Trump might call Climate Change a “Chinese hoax”, but the corporate cabal and oligarchic elites (that own his administration) know that climate change is “Real” and that climate change poses a serious threat to peace, prosperity and stability of our planet. In fact, Trump is building a wall around his own golf courses in order to combat rising sea levels caused by climate change while denying the economic impact of climate change and calling climate change “Fake News”.
The CEOs of companies in fracking, coal, oil, chemical and fossil fuel industries know that they are vandalizing and destroying our planet, often for short-term profiteering and at the expense of our health and the health of our planet.
The corporate elites know that by ignoring or denying climate change, the problem won’t simply go away and if we don’t change or adapt to the new practices, the Mother Nature will eventually move on and replace us with new species.
Demagogues like Trump rise as a result of failed democracies, and the American Democracy is under assault and in crisis, not just because of Trump, but the flow of dark money from neo-fascist billionaires and oligarchic elites into our political, economic, legal and judicial system and the ongoing assault against the American working class families. These dark corporate forces have declared war against our planet, and our love for humanity, truth, justice and freedom and if we don’t fight back against totalitarianism, fascism, nepotism, and corporatism, we are doomed to face the devastation, obliteration and extinction that is greater than anything the world has seen since the disappearance of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
As they say “We Do Not Inherit the Earth from Our Ancestors; We Borrow It from Our Children” and as the author and scholar Chris Hedges says “as Americans, it is our responsibility to take back the control of our government and overthrow corporate forces that have destroyed our democracy and vomited up monstrosities as dangerous as Donald trump”.
